Meet the Board

PresidentRoberta Goldberg, CI, CT, and NAD III

Roberta graduated from NCCC in 2000 with an AA in Interpreting and Western Connecticut State University in 2001 with a BA in Communications/Human Relations.
She has been interpreting since 1993 and has worked in educational, medical, legal, corporate and community settings. She has worked for FSW since 1999 and is currently
the Senior Staff Interpreter.

Roberta previously served on the CRID Board as a Member at Large. She served 4 years as chairperson for LeGIT (now BLeGIT) within RID. She has chaired the Access committees for RID National Conferences since 2005, and the past two Region 1 Conferences, providing awareness training for hotel staff at each
conference.

 


 

Vice-President - Elizabeth LaFlamme-Baker, M.S., NIC, HS-BCP

Elizabeth received her BA from Northeastern University in Boston, MA in 2008 and went on to complete her ITP at Northwestern Community College in Winsted, CT.  She holds a Master’s Degree in Human Services Management from Post University and has done numerous internships with agencies in Massachusetts and Connecticut including the College of the Holy Cross, The Learning Center for the Deaf, the Massachusetts State Association of the Deaf and the Deaf Blind Contact Center. She has served as Region 1 Delegate for the RID Membership Section, Interpreters in Educational and Instructional Settings since August of 2009 and recently took on the role of Secretary/Treasurer for RID’s Video Interpreter Membership Section.  Elizabeth primarily works as a Video Relay Interpreter and as an educational interpreter in both K-12 and post secondary settings.  Elizabeth volunteers for the American Cancer Society and makes more time now to spend with the family who made her a survivor.  She holds a very special place in her heart for her niece, Remington aka Remy.


Treasurer –  Betty Swenton, Associate Member

Betty is a 2008 graduate of Northwestern Connecticut Community College. She received her Associates Degree in Interpreter Preparation in ASL/ English with high honors recognized by the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society. She has recently passed the NIC written test and is currently studying for the performance test. She is employed by both the Mental Health Association of Connecticut and the American School for the Deaf.


Recording Secretary - Andrea Carey, Associate

 Andrea Carey graduated from Northwestern Connecticut Community College( NCCC) in 2009 with a AA in Interpreter Preparation  ASL/ English. She is currently employed at MHAC Choice II work service  program as an employment specialist.  She previously performed for ASL LIVE and  served as a treasurer for the Northwestern Deaf club.


Recording Secretary - Alyssa Kurth, NIC

Alyssa Kurth has been interpreting since 2004.  She graduated from NWCC in 2004 with an Associates in Interpreting and in 2009 from University of Northern Colorado with her Bachelor's in Interpreting.  She is currently attending UNC again to work towards earning her legal certification.  She currently works for BRS as a full time interpreter assistant and freelances when she can.



Member at Large - Anna Rinaldi RSC/DI

I am an alumnus of ASD, Gallaudet University, and California State University at Northridge (CSUN).  I was one of the first staff counselors at Camp Isola Bella in 1964.  From 1980 to 1982, I was a member of the RID Board.  In the early 1970's, I began teaching in a variety of interpreter preparation programs in Georgia, Oregon, Washington, South Carolina, and North Carolina.

Currently I am a part-time instructor in both ASL and Deaf Studies at Northwestern Connecticut Community College (NCCC) in Winsted.  My certification from RID is RSC/DI.  Since 2001, I have been involved with Sound Off, Connecticut’s Community Theater.  I have been a member at large since 2005.


Member at Large - Elizabeth Bull, CI, CT

Currently, I work at the Bureau of Rehabilitation Services as an Interpreter Assistant and before that I was an Educational Interpreter in ASD's Outreach & Support Services department. I graduated from NCCC's IPP back in 2003. I look forward to getting to know CRID again and assisting the interpreters in whatever ways I can.
