Connecticut Mentorship Program Workshop Series

"Mentor's Toolbox"

Presenter:  Alonna Lamb-Sedgwick

Mentor's Toolbox is a comprehensive seminar to prepare professional Interpreters to work as mentors in your community.  Students will learn effective coaching strategies, assessment techniques and building a portfolio with their mentee, address issues of language, interpreting, ethics, and identification of short-term and long-term goals. 

Mentors will be able to: gain exposure and understand techniques of assessment; learn strategies to provide effective coaching and feedback; be exposed and demonstrate effective one-to-one and group mentoring; develop a training plan that addresses the individual needs and scaffolds the learning process for mentees; identify community resources to be utilized as needed; be able to write effective mentoring goals; structure the learning processes to prepare mentees  for obtaining or upgrading credentials and embrace the need to draft a portfolio with their mentees including components such as language, interpreting, ethics, and identification of short-term and long-term goals for the mentee.

Alonna M. Lamb CI/CT - Has been a professional ASL Interpreter, consultant and presenter for the past 18 years. She currently works in the legal, conference and video relay settings and continues to provide training to interpreters across the nation in a variety of venues.  She was the Southern California Region Director of the Region V Mentorship Grant and a trainer/mentor for the NYS Educational Interpreter Grant Program.  Mentors in the field have looked to her for initial training, diagnostic training and on-going support.  Alonna is high energy and passionate about her work.

 

A continental breakfast will be provided on Saturday.  Lunch is on your own.
